The primary focus of research is on experimental and clinical implant technology. The LBB was founded in 1989 by Prof. Dr. med. C. J. Wirth, Priv.-Doz. Dr.-Ing. C. Hurschler has been director of the laboratory since Juny 2000. The laboratory is an open gateway for scientific transfer. This is reflected in many national and international research collaborations. The LBB is certified by the German Society for Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery (DGOU) and is present in the two research areas Network for Muskuloskeletal Biomechanichs (MSB-Net) and Network for Regenerative Orthopaedics (NRO).
